Despite spending three weeks holiday eating and drinking, I still booked dinner at Marque for the first week we return to Sydney. I was generously gifted a Marque as my work farewell present. It felt a bit weird using the voucher the same week I started back with the some employer. Weird how the world works.
It's not busy at all for a Friday night, with 5 other couples and a group of 6. The service is excellent, as you would expect. I lost my voucher and they were able to look it up and take it off the bill, no hassle. The staff are constantly communicating with each other, it's a tight ship! Simon Curkovic, Marque's Head Sommelier is very patient with my questions and brings each wine to life with his introductions. I get food-star struck when I see Mark Best behind the bar. Such a food nerd.
Will I go back? I wish I could! But for me Marque is a special occasion, 'one time' restaurant. I really like the use of unusual ingredients. More cafes and restaurants should incorporate bush tucker into their dishes, not leaving it just to the fancy restaurants. The menu this week has already changed slightly so it would be interesting to go back. They do a $45 Friday lunch and I heard from a friend and read somewhere that you can BYOW for $30 per bottle.
